Dinny Goonan Wines is acutely aware of the importance of the natural environment and operates in a responsible and environmentally sustainable manner. We also recognise that our customers and suppliers share similar expectations. Our commitment to apply best practice standards to the environment is demonstrated in the following ways: - More than 6,000 indigenous trees have been planted on the property to offset our carbon footprint. They provide critical habitat for native birds, insects and other wildlife (including a large population of bandicoots, ‘Eric’ our resident echidna who ambles into the winery from time to time, and more than forty species of birds.)
 - Vines are irrigated on only the hottest of summer days from water harvested during winter and spring. Collected storm water is used in the winery and waste water is naturally treated prior to discharge back onto the land.
- The major source of energy used is electricity which is generated through green sources.
- Biodiversity is practiced in the vineyard. The need to use chemical sprays is reduced by training the vines on open canopies that allow light and air to penetrate easily. If spraying is needed, organic or biological preparations that target specific pests are used, leaving the majority of micro-fauna to co-exist in a state of ecological balance. Substantial ground cover is retained between the rows to give beneficial insects a site to over-winter while the vines are dormant.
- All packaging used in the winery is recyclable.
- All aspects of vineyard and winery operation are regularly reviewed to identify areas for improvement e.g. we are now looking at insulating the fermentation tanks to reduce energy consumption associated with the cold stabilisation of wines.
